Cleaning & Maintenance

Golden Select flooring is among the highest performing of floors available, but it is not indestructible, and minor cosmetic scuffing is normal for any flooring. To ensure your floors perform as well in the future as they do the day after you install them, follow these tips:

Laminate

DO:

  • Place walk-off mats and area rugs at main traffic entrances and protective pads under furniture legs to prevent scratching.
  • Vacuum or dust-mop to remove loose dirt or grit.
  • Maintain the humidity level in the installation space between 40% and 60% year-round. It may be necessary to use a dehumidifier in periods of high humidity and a humidifier in periods of low humidity.

DO NOT:

  • Flood the floor with water or cleaner; use a damp cloth. Do not wet-mop your floors.
  • Use soap-based cleaners or abrasive detergents. Spot clean with water-based cleaners designed for laminate flooring.
  • Let water stand on the floor for any length of time; wipe up spills immediately.
  • Use polishes, waxes or abrasive cleaners.

ENGINEERED HARDWOOD SPC VINYL PLANK

DO :

  • Regular vacuuming and periodic cleaning of your Golden Select floor will protect its beauty and lasting finish.
  • Use small indoor area rugs at all interior entrances, as well as door mats at exterior entrances.
  • Regularly clean your floor using prefinished hardwood floor cleaning products using a microfiber mop.
  • To minimize possible wear and damage, barrel type castors are recommended under furniture sitting on Golden Select floors.
  • Clean up toilet training accidents from children and pets immediately due to the risk of discoloration properties of urine. Do not toilet train pets or keep litter boxes or water bowls on or near your new waterproof engineered hardwood floors.
  • Keep your pet’s nails trimmed weekly, especially with dogs as their nails may scratch and damage the floor. Place water and food bowls on a protective mat that will prevent spills from contacting the floor.
  • Clean spills immediately to prevent them from running between the cracks and staining the floor. Spills should be cleaned up with a lightly dampened cloth.
  • Light and sunlight may naturally darken your Golden Select floor with age if your floor is a light or natural tone, bringing additional warmth to its natural colour. You should, however, periodically move area rugs and other objects to avoid permanent colour differences across your floor. Note: the darkening or change of colour is not considered a defect and is not covered under the product warranty.
  • Minor damage and wear can be repaired using hardwood touch-up and repair products available from your local hardware or flooring suppliers. If you scratch your floor to the point where the scratch penetrated to the depth of the wood fiber, you must repair this scratch using a clear-coat type touch-up pen to seal the surface and protect the wood fiber from moisture, water and other contaminants.
  • Save all leftover boards for unforeseen needs of board replacement in the event of damage or future renovations.

DO NOT:

  • Use cleaning products which contain surfactants or which leave a residue. Use of these products will void product warranty. Before using any cleaning product, test it first on a small, less visible area of the floor.
  • Use abrasive products, bathroom cleaning products, ammonia based products, wax based polishes/cleaners, acrylic finishes, acidic or vinegar based solutions, oil soaps, detergents, chlorine based products, bleach, solvents or any type or polishes. The use of these products may permanently damage the finish of your floor and may void the warranty.
  • Use wet mops, steam cleaners, steam mops or pour water on the floor to clean it.
  • Use polishing products; they will leave a residue on the product’s finish. Use of these products or above non-approved cleaning methods could void your warranty. Water from shoes, clothing, pets, etc. should be wiped up with a soft cloth or paper towel to avoid leaving a watermark on the floor’s surface.
  • Roll or slide furniture or appliances with castors across the floor. Most castors will damage the floor’s finish.
  • Walk with high heels or hard-soled types of shoes as this can cause denting to Golden Select floors. Damage resulting from any footwear is specifically excluded from the warranty.

ENGINEERED VINYL PLANK

DO :

  • Furniture should be moved onto the newly installed floor using an appliance hand truck over hardboard runways.
  • Avoid extended exposure to direct sunlight. It is recommended to close the blinds or drapes during peak sunlight hours. Floor coverings exposed to excessive heat and light are subject to thermal degradation. Use the appropriate precautions to minimize potential effects on the floor covering.
  • Frequently moved furniture should be equipped with felt pads to avoid scratching the floor. Heavy furniture and appliances should be equipped with non-staining large surface floor protectors. Furniture with castors or wheels must be easy swiveling, large surface non-staining and suitable for resilient floors.
  • Use walk off mats at entrances to prevent dirt and grit from being tracked on to the floor.
  • Sweep or vacuum the floor regularly to remove loose dirt.
  • Clean up spills immediately.
  • Damp mop as needed using clean water and a diluted floor cleaner.
  • Allow time for the floor to dry after washing. Immediately wipe up wet areas from spills, foreign substances or wet feet.

DO NOT:

  • Track asphalt-driveway sealer or automobile-oil drips onto the vinyl floor covering.
  • Use electric brooms with hard plastic bottoms with no padding.
  • Use harsh cleansers, chemicals, abrasive scrubbing tools, detergents, abrasive cleaners, or “mop and shine” products.
  • Use ball type castors as they can damage the floor.
  • Use vacuums that use a beater bar or turn the beater bar off.

ARTIFICIAL GRASS

DO :

  • Remove debris: Overhanging trees and general use can cause debris to land on your newly installed lawn.
  • It is recommended to spray down the artificial lawn once a month to remove dust and debris. Large debris can be regularly using a brush or your hand. Brushing the lawn will also help keep the blades upright. Organic debris should not be left to build-up as this can cause weeds to grow.
  • Remove stains: Most stains will be rinsed away with water.
  • If your artificial grass is exposed to animal waste or urine, immediately remove the waste and rinse the area thoroughly with water.

DO NOT:

  • Do not drive vehicles on top of Golden SelectTM Artificial Grass.
  • Do not spray chemicals, herbicides, or pesticides on your artificial lawn.
  • Do not walk on artificial grass with athletic cleats.
  • Artificial grass can be damaged by gum or burned by cigarettes.
  • Do not use wire or metal brush tools to remove debris from your lawn.

Your new Concrete finish is designed to deliver a lasting functional surface. Please follow these simple care guidelines:
  • Reseal the surface every two to three years with a Garage and Driveway Sealer or Clear Coat Sealer for non-automotive surfaces.
  • Mop up automotive chemicals and oil spills.
  • Keep surfaces clear of debris.
  • When shoveling snow, use a plastic shovel.

MOSAIC WALL TILES

DO :

  • Aluminum tiles can be routinely cleaned with any non-abrasive cleaning compound or formula that is recommended for aluminum.

DO NOT:

  • Use acid based products to clean your glass and aluminum mosaic wall tile as this may affect its integrity. Follow manufacturer’s instructions when using these products.
